If you are on the official census records of the town hall <<empadronamiento>>, that is not enough to vote. But you will be allowed to vote if you are REGISTERED IN THE ELECTORAL CENSUS. This can be achieved at the Registration Office at the Town Hall in the statistics department of your town. This is done by filling in a form giving you the right to vote, deadline for applications of EU citizens is 30th December 2014, for citizens coming from countries having agreements with Spain, deadline is 15th January 2015. Once you have done the formality of the registration, your data is permanently in the Electoral Census to vote in Spain, until you wish to cancel it. In case you have found yourself stuck in the middle of completion of your registration at the Electoral Census, in the PSOE Foreign Voters office there will be English speaking staff that will be able to provide you with a complete guidance from A to Z and answer all relevant questions. Although you are a foreigner and you might think that it is irrelevant to take part in the local elections, but the result of them will affect you. As this is the case, there must be a “stop and think” element as you are going to be the one who decides whom you wish to be governed by. |
